Whats all the hype about chickpeas??
There are plenty of reasons to get hyped about chickpeas. First off, they’re delicious!
Find some of the many other benefits below:
- Excellent source of protein
Chickpeas contain 19g of protein per 100g. This makes them a great replacement for meat in vegetarian and vegan diets.
- Can help maintain weight and/or support weight loss
Chickpeas are rather low in calories with only 364 calories per 100g. Additionally, the protein and fiber in chickpeas can promote appetite-lowering effects as a method to help reduce calorie intake at meals.
- Manage blood sugar levels
There are many reasons that chickpeas help manage blood sugar levels. Chickpeas are a great source of fiber and protein, both of which play a role in blood sugar regulation.
Many studies have even shown chickpea consumption resulting in a reduced risk of several diseases, including diabetes and heart disease. These effects are often attributed to their blood-sugar-lowering effects. - Lower cholesterol
Eating one serving of chickpeas or lentils a day can significantly reduce cholesterol levels, lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Chickpeas are high in a soluble fiber called raffinose. The healthy bacteria in your gut allows this to break down slowly so your colon can digest it. Many studies have show chickpeas to benefit digestion and help to reduce gastrointestinal upset.
Roasted Chickpeas
Must Haves:
- Baking Sheet
- Tin Foil
Ingredients:
- Chickpeas
- Salt
- Pepper
- Oil (Coconut, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Canola Oil)
- Spices (Cumin, Garlic Powder)
Preheat the oven to 375°
Set your oven on bake to 375° allow it to preheat as your prepare your chickpeas.
Drain and dry your chickpeas
Drain your chickpeas and let dry for 20-60 minutes. Then pat dry with a paper towel, the drier your chickpeas are the crispier they will be.
Line your baking sheet with tin foil
Lining your baking sheet with tin foil will help your chickpeas to crisp up a bit more.
Coat your chickpeas with oil and seasoning
Combine your chickpeas, oil and spices into a bowl, toss until fully covered.
You can also coat your lined baking sheet with oil and then add your chickpeas and seasoning, once all ingredients are combined, toss to fully coat.
Cook for 30-45 minutes
Place in the oven and cook for 30 – 45 minutes. Flip after 20 minutes and again at 30-35 minutes. Cook until a golden crispy brown.
